June 2012 Topbox

I finally received my June Topbox today, much later than everyone else this time (boo).  But here it is!

I received a Stila curling mascara, Forever Your Curl, Pari Beauty Precious Glow, a multi tasking eye primer and body shimmer, a full-sized Mark lip stain in Frilly Froufrou and a full-sized M.Asam moisturizer.  As an added bonus, I received Simple eye makeup remover and three packets of Garnier tinted moisturizer.  I had also neglected to select the eco-friendly option for packaging, so I ended up receiving the regular box, this beautiful decorated tube box you see above.  What I love about this box is that there is no logo or advertising on it, so it is reusable for gifts or as a keepsake box.

I am delighted with the brands and variety of products that Topbox has provided so far, granted this is only my second box.  I can’t wait to try these products!

I did want to give my reviews on last month’s May Topbox products.  First up is the Deborah Lippman nail polish in Whatever Lola Wants.  This is a very sheer frosty pink and is buildable in opacity, but it takes at least three coats for true opacity.  Being a frost, there are lots of brush strokes, so be prepared for that.  For the retail price of DL polishes of $18-22, I would have expected fewer brush strokes.  The polish goes on nicely and has a nice brush.  I also like that Deborah Lippman polishes are cruelty free.  That’s important for me.

Next up is Clear Prep by Cover FX.   This trial size was enough to let me try the product several times, which is great because I believe it takes more than just once or twice to really decide if you like a cosmetic or not (with a few exceptions like nail polish where you get to see it for days at a time).  As a makeup primer, I found this product quite heavy.  I got a chance to wear it under different humidity and weather conditions, and it unfortunately proved to just weigh my skin down and make it feel like I was wearing a mask.  I have quite clear skin to begin with, so I can’t comment on the anti-acne properties, but I did not develop any breakouts while wearing it.  It does mattify nicely, though.  I did find my mineral makeup powder gummed up a bit when brushed overtop and did not apply as smoothly as it would on clean skin.

I tried the Orlane eye contour only a few times, since the sample size was quite small and only allowed for a few trials.  I did not notice any significant difference in my eye youthfulness, wrinkle quality or circles.  Then again, I do not have many noticeable wrinkles or circles to begin with.

The last product was the Expressions bronzer brush.  This full-sized brush is a hefty and nicely-made brush.  Great quality.  I only used it a few times, since I do not really need to use bronzer this time of year, but I was very happy with the bristle quality, shape of the handle, brush shape and density of the way the bristles were packed.  This product is my favourite of the May Topbox.

Topbox is continuing to impress me, although the only complaint I had was that I received my box after everyone else had already started posting about their boxes.  Last time, I was one of the first to receive my Topbox, so I’m confuzzled!  lol.

For those who would like an email invite to get on the Topbox subscription list, please leave a comment, and I will be glad to send you one!  There is quite a long wait list, so it’s a good idea to get on the list as soon as possible!  The subscription is $10 per month approximately and includes shipping!

Huggles,
