Halloween Challenge Day 3: Watermarble

Today’s Halloween challenge is Watermarble! It is the second day of Lacquer Dreams‘ Halloween challenge.

I think I’ve said before that I am not a fan of doing watermarble manicures. It’s a lot of work and so so so so MESSY.  Plus I seem to never get that dynamic fan pattern I envision ON the nail itself, no matter how pretty it presents on the surface of my water.  Le sigh.  I do like the colour choices I made and how they translate nicely as a “Halloween” mani.

I used Sinful Colors Cloud 9, Amethyst and Secret Admirer.  I used two coats of Cloud 9 as my colour base underneath the marble because the orange is a bit sheer and I really wanted it to stand out and be vibrant.  The purple in Amethyst and the coal colour in Secret Admirer is strong enough to layer overtop nice and opaque.  So all in all I am happy with how it turned out, especially my thumb, but I just wish my skills were better in being able to get nice fan swirls on my nails :P

My right hand turned out okay too.  I got a bit of bubbling and even nicked one of my fingers while it was still wet! D’oh!  Like I said, watermarble is so messy.

I did tape off the edges of my fingers to reduce cleanup afterwards, but it also hinders my mobility.  That could be why I find design placement a bit more difficult.  Ah, well.  Practice makes perfect; right?
